Mr. Ananias Blocker II

Ananias Blocker Il, age 77, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at Hospice House of Williamsburg, Virginia after a courageous battle with myeloma, Peripheral Arterial Disease, and related complications. Ananias was known to many people by many names, including 'AB,' 'Bubba,' 'Pops,' and 'Pop-pops.' Throughout his life, Ananias was very active in his community, church and school. His open spirit and engaging personality attracted friends of all types, across all socio-economic, geographic, and demographic differences. Everywhere he went, he built community often where none had existed before. Born February 21, 1948, in Moultrie, Georgia to Ananias Blocker and Bernice Bly, he started early in developing relationships which have lasted a lifetime. Growing up in a small town surrounded by family, Moultrie rooted in him a strong sense of community that carried him through life. Ananias graduated from William Bryant High School as an honors student participating in student government and varsity basketball. (Despite his protestations, his mother refused to let him play football.) Ananias attended the College of the Ozarks where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. While at the College of the Ozarks, he met the first love of his life, Myrtis Maudell Watson, they shared 41 years of marriage until her passing in 2009. And in true testament to his spirit, AB found the rarest of things, true love a second time when he married Cherry Upson in 2017, Ananias was a devoted husband and father to his only child, Ananias Blocker Ill, aka 'Andy,' and loved entertaining friends at home, especially when it involved grilling, watching football, or playing Pinochle or Bid Whist. He also loved to dance and never missed an opportunity to display his signature moves. But most of all he loved the game of tennis - playing, watching it on television, or in person. Ananias started his career in Finance and Administration and worked for PWC, Digital Equipment Computer and other technology companies. He passed those corporate lessons to his son who carried his briefcase around the house in anticipation of his own career, Never one to sit still, at retirement age AB left Corporate America to engage with his passion for grilling and start his own business with Cherry. AB&C Southern BBQ Sauce fulfilled a lifelong dream, a special recipe that took him from local TV appearances to BBQ festivals, where he continued building community through food.
