Mr. James H. Dent, Sr.

It is with heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Luke Strong and Son Mortuary, Ltd. are saddened to announce the passing of Mr. James Henry Dent, Sr., 86, of Camilla, Georgia. James was born on September 21, 1939, in Baconton, Georgia, to the late John Dent and Laura Dent. He departed this life on May 15, 2026. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a man of quiet strength, known for his quick wit, humor, wisdom, and matter-of-fact way of speaking. He was dependable, hardworking, and a devoted provider for his family. A true “jack of many trades,” James used his skills, knowledge, and determination throughout his life to care for those he loved. James earned certification in mechanics and worked with the Quaker Oats Corporation. He later became a long-haul truck driver for Mallard Transportation. He also worked for Mitchell County Public Works, from which he retired. In every role, James was respected for his strong work ethic, reliability, and practical wisdom. James loved the Lord and was introduced to Christ at an early age. Over the years, he was affiliated with several churches, but he eventually found his way home to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. There, he faithfully served the Lord and his church family. In 2017, he was ordained as a deacon. He also taught Sunday school and served as Financial Officer. James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Dent, and his siblings: Hubert Dent, Howard Dent, Andrew Dent, Mary Quimbley, Rosa Dudley, and Vera Roberts. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Adine Dent; his children, Julius Dent, James H. Dent, Jr., John (Tiffany) Dent, Alvenease Jackson, and Andrea Cunningham; his surviving siblings, Charles (Linda) Dent and Johnnie Mae Williams. He also leaves behind special family members, Emma Jean Lampkin, Jennifer (Regina) Stone, and Chubby Daniels; ten grandchildren, Julius Daniel, Ashtyn, Avery, Nechelle, Zerious II, Trinity, John D., Zamyia, D'Asha, and Olivia; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. James Henry Dent, Sr. will be remembered for his quiet nature, his humor, his wisdom, his love for family, and his faithful service to God. His life was a blessing, his memory will be treasured, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
