    Ms. Geraldine Holloway Stevenson

    February 29, 1932 - January 29, 2021

Geraldine Holloway Stevenson was granted her angel wings on January 29, 2021. Her final days were spent surrounded by and being cared for by her family. Geraldine was born on February 11, 1932 to the late John Benjamin (J.B.) and Carrie Bell Holloway in Moultrie, GA Geraldine was educated at the Moultrie High School for Negro Youth, graduating salutatorian in 1949. Being born to parents of high Christian ideals, Geraldine professed her firm belief in Christ and was a dedicated member of the Mother Easter Baptist Church since 1938. As a lifelong member of Mother Easter Baptist Church, Geraldine was fervently involved with the Youth Department, The JB Lewis Circle, and Senior Choir while faithfully serving as Church Clerk for 47 years. More notedly, she was a proponent of serving on the Church’s Colquitt County Food Bank committee, never missing a commitment when oftentimes only she and her lifelong friend, Maude Burke, would be the only volunteers present. Geraldine’s early employment was as a Substitute Teacher and Seamstress. In later years, she found employment as Cashier within the Colquitt County school system (28 years) and as Activities Director (30 years) of the R.D. Smith Youth Center where she was able to impact the lives of the youth in the community. While serving as Cashier, Geraldine was known to ensure all children received a meal regardless of if your lunch card was lost or you had no money to purchase a school lunch. It was at the R.D. Smith Youth Center where she played a pivotal role in the development of children by instilling in them moral, social and ethical values. Geraldine’s passion for serving her community was manifested through active involvement in numerous civic organizations including The Young Ladies Civic Club, The Alfresco Club, and The Shaw Gladiators. Geraldine is preceded in death by siblings Wallace Holloway (Betty), Hollis Holloway, Delores Thompson (Frank), brother-in-law Harold Davis, and daughter, Gloria Stevenson. Geraldine is survived by her sister, Mavis Davis of Bellevue, Nebraska, sister-in-law Betty Holloway of Moultrie GA; and children Annie S. Greene (John W. Jr), Debra Stevenson, Katrina Perrin, all of Moultrie, GA, Derek Stevenson (Lisa) of Camilla, GA, Andre’ Stevenson (Andrea) of Ft. Mitchell, AL and US Navy Airman Chantting Stevenson of San Diego, CA. Surviving bonus children include Milton Tyus, Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL, Gia Braynon (Harold) of Miami FL, Wallace Stevenson, Jr. of Queens, NY, Konstance Tyus-Edwards of New Orleans, LA, and a beloved godson, Ervin Harper of Atlanta, GA. To her legacy, Geraldine’s lineage includes 36 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
