Mr. Horace D. Jolly

It is with heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Luke Strong and Son Mortuary, Ltd. are saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Horace Donald Jolly, 75, of Norman Park, departed this life on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Mr. Horace Donald Jolly, also known as “Man” was born on February 15,1948 to the late Robert Jolly, Sr. and the late Mildred Burgess Jolly. A humanitarian that loved sharing the harvest of his crops. He loved talking about Black History and led many marches for equal rights. He served one term as City Councilman in Norman Park, Georgia and was an advocate for the community. He was a lifelong member of Williams Tabernacle CME Church. He played football and graduated from William Bryant High School, class of 1966. He was one of the first black men to work for Winn Dixie and Coca Cola in Moultrie, Georgia and he retired as a technician at Procter & Gamble. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Jolly; parents, Robert Jolly, Sr and Mildred Burgest Jolly; step-mother, Laura Jolly; father-in-law, Reverend Nathaniel Brown; siblings, Edith Reed, Joyce Jolly, Alfred Burgest, Sr., Jonas “Sam” Jolly, Amos Jolly, Robert Jolly, Jr., and Emmitt Jolly, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Christie Jolly-Boatwright (John) and Onida Jolly; two special great-grandchildren that he raised as his own, Horace Jolly, III and Kinsley G. Jolly, three grandchildren, Horace Jolly, II, Ja’Vetta Jolly, and John Boatwright IV; four sisters, Mildred Williams, Zelma Bridges (Herbert), Gladys Ham (Christopher), and Janice Yarborough; three brothers, Reverend Lawrence Jolly, Sr., Reverend Rufus Jolly (Vallie), and Glanzer Jolly (Brenda); mother-in- law, Ruth Brown; three brothers-in-law, Eddie Brown (Betty), Carlton Brown (Jane) and Fredrick Brown; seven sisters-in-law, Naomi Sims, Elizabeth Huckaby, Alesia Lee (Anthony), Debra Roberts (Bernard), Roberta Hill (Samuel), Christine Hill (Danny), and Jacqueline Barnes (Randy); two special nephews, Michael Jolly and Terry Hadley; bonus daughter, Melinda Wise; step-siblings, Velma Thomas, Shirley Jones, and Jasper Lewis; special cousin, Gregory Roberts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Williams Tabernacle CME Church with Reverend Billy Pitts officiating. Reverend Lawrence Jolly, Sr., Minister Wilma Hadley, and Deacon Danny Hill assisting. Interment will follow at Strong Memorial Garden.
