In Loving Memory of Rigoberto Carranza Martinez January 1, 1965 – May 6, 2025 Rigoberto “Rigo” Carranza-Martinez passed away peacefully at his home on May 6, 2025, surrounded by the love and presence of his devoted wife and family. Born in Chanel HGO Municipio La Mission, Mexico, Rigo’s life was a beautiful journey of faith, family, resilience, and unwavering love. He was preceded in death by his father, Juan Carranza Covarrubias, and now joins him in eternal rest. Rigo is lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Teresa Ann Carranza, whose life he colored with daily serenades, spontaneous bouquets of red and orange wildflowers, and steadfast care through every season. He was a proud stepfather to David Bradley Melton and Leanne (Jeffrey) Pritchard; a cherished son to his mother, Inocencia Martinez Villeda; and a beloved brother to Nora, Maryarita, Jose Santos, Domiciano, Baudencio, Apolonio, and Juan Carlos. In 1983, Rigo came to the United States, settling first in Albany, Georgia, before making Valdosta his home in 1987. He became a U.S. citizen in February 2011—a milestone he celebrated with pride and gratitude. A man of quiet ambition and deep family loyalty, Rigo opened a Mexican restaurant in Moultrie, Georgia, with his brother Carlos in 1991. Just two years later, he stepped away from the business to care for his ailing wife—a choice that reflected the selflessness that defined his life. Rigo was a faithful Catholic whose devotion anchored his days. He found joy in the simplest pleasures: fishing, working in the yard, fixing small engines, walking along the beach, and listening to The Beatles. He had a soft spot for old cars, and a playful spirit, especially when joking with his mother. Every morning, he sang to Teresa in Spanish—a daily act of love that now echoes sweetly in memory. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 25, 2025, at 7:00 PM at Iglesia Bautista Church, 1499 Riverbend Rd, Dalton, GA. A private burial will follow. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Keith Royal, whose kindness and care meant the world during Rigo and Teresa’s most difficult time. Though Rigo is now at rest, his legacy of love, laughter, and gentle strength will forever live on in those who knew him.
